Palliser Furniture Ltd. of Winnipeg, Manitoba announces that the company is voluntarily recalling approximately 680 toy boxes for a cash refund or a full replacement. The toy boxes have either (1) hinges that can be adjusted by consumers and do not prevent sudden lid closing or dropping, or (2) spaces at the back of the chest at the lid opening that can all finger pinching, crushing or laceration.
Palliser has not received any reports of injuries or incidents involving these toy boxes. This recall is being conducted to prevent the possibility of injury. Palliser considers the safety of young children to be of paramount concern and works to make all its products safe.
All the toy boxes have a manufacturer's label on the back or inside of the toy box showing the Palliser name and model number written on it. The models that are included in this recall are 580-283, 581-283, 582-283, 583-283, 584-283, 589-283, and 598-283. The toy boxes are approximately 92-cm. wide, 48-cm. deep, and 52-cm. high (36-inches wide, 19-inches deep and 21-inches high). They were offered in the following finishes/styles: (1) white, either with very small color inserts in the knobs, or with large color inserts on the front panel; (2) natural maple (also known as Palliser's Durham Maple) or natural maple with white, denim blue or hunter green front panels; and (3) natural cherry (also known as Palliser's Ravenna Cherry). Furniture stores in Canada sold these toy boxes from July 1999 through August 2001 for about $200 CND.
